Lingerie equals confidence for every woman. Whether you’re looking for something to wear every day, to add another layer to your romance, or for a boudoir photoshoot, finding the right piece for YOU is crucial. Lingerie is beautiful, don’t get me wrong, some creations are works of art in themselves. But lingerie is there to be an amplifier for your own beauty.
The wondrous part of being a woman is we have so much to choose from when it comes to finding that something special. So how do you navigate the world of lace, silk, and leather to find what will work for you without getting overwhelmed? The last thing you want is to psych yourself out to the point where you don’t get what it is you’re looking for and stick with what you have because the industry can be “too consuming”.
When I first really started to play around with dressing in lingerie I struggled in so many ways. I had no idea what I wanted for starters. When I tried things on I felt my breasts overflowing on the sides or my stomach was so squished in I felt like I couldn’t even lie down comfortably. I was completely turned off by the experience and didn’t know if I was going to continue down the path. I wanted to feel sexier in what I was wearing but I wasn’t sure if lingerie was something that would work for someone like me.
My body type is different from some of my friends who would recommend these scraps of clothing that looked great on them…but made me feel like I was squeezed into a tube of paint.
It wasn’t until I took a look at my body type and what would work for me that I finally found my love for the material that oozed confidence. The first thing you need to look at when it comes to your lingerie journey is what will look right on you.
LINGERIE & YOUR BODY TYPE

HOURGLASS

If you have an hourglass body shape it means your shoulders and hips are the same width and you come to a more slender waistline in the middle. Adding a garter belt or even sexier a suspender belt adds a touch of WOW to your already symmetrical body without pulling away from your beauty. A teddy, which is a tighter and more fit bodysuit style, is a must-have for your figure.
PEAR

If you have a pear body shape your body forms a triangle of sorts. You have more of a petite top that meets your fuller hips and bottom. When you’re looking at lingerie you want to find something that makes you look proportionate in shape and accentuates all of your body. Finding something that draws attention to your upper body, like a bralette or bandeau creates that flawless feeling that lingerie can give you. A halter-style top also creates a beautiful silhouette that compliments a pear body shape. A ruffled matching bra and panty set would be a killer must-have option for someone with this body type who wants to own her fierceness, you can even make this a high-waisted bottom if you would like to add some extra flare.
Carrot ( Inverted Triangle )

If you have a carrot body type it means your shoulders are broader and more defined and the rest of your body angles down to a slimmer waist and hips. Your body creates an upside-down triangle shape that can highlight your beautiful neck and collarbone. Cheeky underwear or even high-waisted panties feature your hips and draw the eyes down your body from your shoulders and chest. A strapless top can also be a hit if you want to own the beauty of your body shape, which of course I think you definitely should because you look incredible.
Athletic

If you have an athletic shape you can rock so many different styles of lingerie. One of my go to recommendations for you though is something that subtly shows off your curves and highlights length in your torso. A bustier lingerie is a great choice because it amplifies your chest while still complimenting your body and taking nothing away. Corsets or a teddy with a corset waist are another must have in your closet as it creates deeper curves and gives you more of a luxurious silhouette.
Apple

If you have an apple body shape you have curves and swerves for days, and lingerie is here to feature all of that gorgeous energy. When you look for lingerie choose something that pulls focus to your chest and lays flattering on your body. I always recommend a chemise or a lace top babydoll it hits in all the right ways. If you’re newer to lingerie and want to build up your confidence a satin nightgown will never steer you wrong. Now if you’re really feeling sassy and want to go for it a bodysuit adds a touch of flare that brings that little extra something no one can deny.
Busty

Now this one may fall in with any body type, so I wanted to give it its own category because lingerie is not always made for women with bigger breasts. Most lingerie doesn’t provide support or comfort when you have more to work with which can lead us busty women to lean more towards plain jane bras that hold in the girls…but we get to feel sexy too.
I feel like it is important to show some pieces that can look good on everyone no matter what your body type is as well. Here are some of my favorites that I think should hang in everyone’s closet
Camisole…I know you’re probably thinking that you own this already and it’s not the least bit sexy. But it can be! Camisoles with that touch of lace at the top or even better yet a soft and silky one that just glides over your skin like butter are captivating. When you find a camisole that you feel complete with you give off an invitation vibe that says come and play with me.

Silk or Lace Robe…a staple piece every woman should have at least one of. If you have 10 no one will judge you, right?? I’m asking for a friend. No joke though having something to wrap around you and make you feel cocooned in sensual energy is a feeling like no other. It gives us everything that we crave from owning lingerie. The best part is so many of these styles of robe come with a matching nightgown to complete the look so you have the added benefit of getting two looks in one!

Garter Belt…now this is something most women think of when it comes to wearing one with your wedding gown, but bridal sets are not the only time for a sexy garter belt. This is the perfect addition to almost any lingerie and heats things up just a bit more. I am here to tell you that adding a garter belt is an extra dose of temptation your partner doesn’t know they need.

Matching Bra & Panty Set…yes this is still lingerie it doesn’t have to be an all out extravaganza. It’s about what you like and what you feel you are most comfortable with wearing. One of my main go to lingerie looks is a matching blue lace bra and panty set, simple to some but makes me feel like an ocean kissed mermaid and I live for it.
I want to leave you with this, remember that what you wear is about you. Whether you’re single or in a committed relationship your lingerie isn’t for anyone but YOU!!
Yes, others might get to enjoy it…if they’re lucky.
But ultimately this is your moment so let yourself have it.
Whether you plan on wearing your new lingerie underneath your clothes for work, for a special night with your partner, or in a sexy boudoir photoshoot you need to feel like your top self in what you have on. Own the sensuality that you already have within you and let your garment help pull it out of you so it shows.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on your favorite style of lingerie and if you try this out share it with us on social or leave us a comment sharing your story. We love to hear from our community.
